Pattern Place Workshop with artist Joke Robaard

We’re happy to invite you to the official opening of Pattern Place, a project by Anouk Beckers and Alessandra Varisco grounded in a shared obsession for (paper) patterns.

On Sunday, 24 May, Pattern Place is hosting a workshop, Image Observation and Garment Translation, in collaboration with artist Joke Robaard (11:00 - 17:30)

Pattern Place is a space that invites engagement with pattern making to critically investigate the fashion industry. You are invited to join us through a variety of activities, ranging from practice-based research to workshops, presentations and publishing.

Image Observation and Garment Translation is a workshop format developed by Pattern Place. In every workshop, participants are invited to draw patterns intuitively based on garments represented in fashion images. Intuitively made patterns are not intended to be precise and calculated shapes to be neatly assembled (like those in the fashion industry). Instead, intuitive pattern making is an invitation to reinterpret and adapt garments on fashion pages through one’s own body and perspective.

This workshop will start with a presentation by Joke Robaard and will work from a selection of images from her archive ‘Archive Intersections’ of fashion and newspaper images and texts that she has collected since 1977 until the present.

There are 6 workshop spots available.
Fee: 15 euro
