As part of the public program at Warehouse Market London edition, we invite you to: Poetic Label Writing with TANVEER AHMED and LOTTIE MCCRINDELL

Join fashion and textile poet Lottie McCrindell and fashion academic Tanveer Ahmed for a two-hour creative writing workshop at Warehouse Market London exploring and reimagining the language of clothing labels.

The Warehouse Market display is organised through labels that detail information about each piece such as materials, hours of labour and collaborators. During the workshop, we will use this system as a creative prompt, questioning what kinds of information labels contain, what they omit, and how poetry and metaphor can expand their possibilities.

Drawing inspiration from works such as TENDER BUTTONS by Gertrude Stein and TRIMMINGS by Harryette Mullen, we will read short poetic texts that play with description, materiality and objects. We will then respond to prompts inspired by the garments and textiles surrounding us in the Warehouse Market, before finishing by creating a final ‘label poem’ written on physical labels provided.

Free and open to all. Only curiosity is necessary. Please bring writing materials.
